Tapas bowls are available in 4” and 6” size in an assortment of glazes with and without honeycomb surface.

These bowls are food safe, oven safe and microwave safe.

About the Ceramics as described by the artist.

The Honeycomb inspiration came from a local and active beehive here in Kelowna.  The artist was given a beehive frame with the conglomerate honeycombing the bees had created naturally. The material was difficult to press into clay without distorting the delicate honeycomb so I created a flexible mould that I could cut and alter the honeycomb surface to leave room for the glaze to pop and show off in the negative spaces. 

 The Similkameen Rust Glaze is inspired by the colours of the South Okanagan and the history of the Similkameen Valley; dreams of the riverbanks during the gold rushes and steam engine travel construction, mining and farming which inspires a vibe of antiquity paired with contemporary timelessness with the black clay representing the of the colour of the historic railway ties. 

 The Heirloom Apple Orchard Ash Glaze is inspired by making pots in a traditional way, this glaze was developed using local wood ash from the oldest existing apple orchard in the Okanagan located in East Kelowna. 

Ash glazes were originally discovered in 1500BC and were preferred as they produced harder more durable glazes and the materials were relatively easy and inexpensive to find. The process of turning wood ash is quite laboursome in collecting the right kinds of ash, washing and sieving the material several times and then testing the melting structure with other glaze materials to achieve desirable results. 

 This ceramics process gives a true passionate spin to the theme of local and farm-to-table.
